I'm running a classic episode today because I've got good news about a former guest. People who've been watching the show for a while will recognize this guy.
Tons of great cats and dogs available at glendalehumane.org

Oh those poor black dogs! Were it not for my already 7 housecats and 2 dogs, 4 horses and whatever else wanders in, I would adopt one.
Chris, you need to adopt a black dog yourself! Support a brotha dawg. LOL

Same sort of problem has been expressed about black cats. I'm happy to say last year I adopted a 5 year old black longhair male kitty and he is such a sweetheart.

I was told the same thing about my big black dogs. People seem to be more fearful of them too. Remember Sapphire the "relaxed" dog in episode 122? People cross the street to avoid her all the time. And she is so calm and happy. She will just stick her head in stranger's hands and wait for them to move their fingers.
I guess they look more menacing to some? Or some people are superstitious?
And don't forget how lovely the older dogs are! Folks always want pups when the adults (especially seniors) are the BEST to bring home. And they bond with you as much as the youngers. I promise!

The sweater that you are wearing in this classic episode does not please me. I am, however, very pleased that your sense of fashion has evolved into a much more agreeable style over the months.
thank you

It's true! I've done volunteer work with a local animal shelter and the call them BBDs: Big Black Dogs that no one wants to adopt. It's often because people are afraid of them. Thanks for pointing out how cute they really are, Chris!

Someone above stated that it's clear that Chris is a cat person. Actually, he loves dogs; his favorites are Shetland Sheepdogs (Shelties). He might like cats too, but he's had several Shelties throughout his life. At any rate, the guy's a saint for what he's doing to help animals find homes. It's really too bad about his right foot... *wink*

Shawna is a perfect example of why it should be illegal for stupid 17 year olds to open their mouth, use e-mail, or utilize the United States Postal Service.
As a former SHELTER VOLUNTEER (ya hear that Shawna? Get off your spoiled butt and volunteer somewhere), I can testify that it is a well-known fact that black dogs are much harder to place in new homes, and thus they get put down at a much higher rate. My guess for this is that people bond with animals after seeing the expressions on their faces, and it's hard to see the expression on a black dog's face when they're in the kennel.
Also, people are attracted to novelty. The colored coats offer variety, which people are instinctively attracted to. All black dogs (at first glance) tend to "look the same" and blend into one another.
Thanks for the work you do Chris!
