Perhaps you remember Craig, my viewer who posed with his cat Tommy
for his prom picture. Karla in TEXAS sent me this article about
another teen who posed with a cat for her senior prom. Umm, I don't think
we will be running that PHOTO.
Perhaps you missed: The CRAIG INDEX.
who does that?

Posted by: Courtney | September 20, 2007 at 12:18 PM
Wow, that was a real Debbie Downer story. Whhhaaaaaa whaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Really sad story. Just shows that you need to be careful around the large, dangerous, furries. I would have said "No Way" when the full grown Tiger was pulled out to have a picture with.
This sucked major bollocks today.

Maybe it wasn't a good idea to order steaks before the photo shoot.

I'm confused ... was this intentional murder? Why was she shot? Or was the tiger being shot at and it hit her instead?

Ohhh opening my eyes. Well thank you for opening my eyes to the dangers of unleashed tigers.
Posted by: smux | September 20, 2007 at 06:51 PM
This is for Tito...
The tiger attacked and killed the girl, the girl was not shot. When the tiger attacked the girl, people shot at the tiger in an effort to stop/kill it before it did that much damage, but it was unsuccessful and female and feline both perished; human at the paws of a tiger, tiger the hands of humans.

The people who had this tiger were already violating EXSISTING USDA rules. The public is not allowed to have contact with adult big cats. They were shut down and in big trouble. The Haleys act will do NOTHING to prevent any harm to anyone. It just makes it illegal for anyone to touch a cub if you arent usda liscensed. This would also make it illegal for baby cats to go on Leno or any such shows, so there goes alot of education...

When I moved here and began teaching, I was really, really suprised to learn that there was this long-standing tradition of taking our grade up to this zoo that had shows with 2 people in the cage with 2-3 full-grown tigers, splashing around in a pool and chasing balls. While they were in the cage, the people would talk seriously about how they were wild beasts and could turn on them at any moment. It wasn't like at a circus when they talk it up, it was like "No, really. We are idiots for being in here with them. We can only hope and pray that they don't decide to eat us today." And then one of them did get eatten. Luckily, it was not on a day when we were there on a field trip. I would not have wanted to explain that to the parents.
Seriously, both times I had to go on the stupid field trip, I was hoping and praying the whole time that someone didn't get their face ripped off in front of the 10 year-olds. And the kicker was that there was a bigger, better, cheaper zoo that was closer to the school and had better educational programs that didn't involve putting people in cages with carnivores. Yet, the established teachers at the school opted for the potentially deadly zoo instead. Brilliant.

Dear Smux,
STFU!!!!
&& it was to open your eyes to the ignorance of people and still having animals captive even though we know very well they belong in the wild!
good day!

I'm gonna say it:
I'm sorry that Haley was killed, but posing with a TIGER just to have the kick-assiest senior picture was a phenomenally stupid idea.
Teenagers--our hope for a better future.

sorry but you are wrong. Just because a certain species isnt a "domestic" cat doesnt mean it belongs in the wild anymore then a housecat. Cats were domesticated as mousers, not companions, therefore there temperment is not much changed from felis species it came from. Only difference is color and fatter shape. Almost the same temperment. guess Domestic cats belong in the wild too, since they do just fine out there and can survive quite well when let feral. Horses and cattle kill far greater number of people every year.
Every animal species deserves to live in luxury and safety like cats and dogs. Non domestic species have different requirements, but if properly met they do not long for a life they never knew. Some people will never change there Peta minds, and every animal in captivity to them is slavery just because they have heard it so many times, yet never met a happy content captive cat.
Did you know that on average only one person per year dies of a big cat attack that isnt occupational/hobby hazard? Those are pretty good odds considering how many 1000 there are in captive hands

we all tend to ignore the fact that this girl did not appear to have denied the planning of the picture being taken...and now two lives are gone because of our
downright ignorance for other species
so sad
