Teacher's Lament

Darlene_sc
Darlene from SOUTH CAROLINA (25teen) writes: "...I teach high school. I fixed up my cacti with their own sets of eyes. I cannot tell you how many times a day a student will walk up and poke them to see if they really are sharp. The answer is inevitably yes."

As a graduate of the South Carolina public school system, I'd like to know where Darlene teaches. I know the state has a reputation for not such good schools ("Thank Dog for Mississippi," we used to say.), but if it's gotten so bad that they can't tell by high school that poking a cactus is gonna hurt, then that's just sad.

And let me also say that the realization that I was in high school in South Carolina when Darlene was *born* is a rather sad one.

Are you going to have any apperances in the southern US? I would love to see you in person.

Chris we'd ALL like to see you in person (PACIFIC NORTHWEST REPRESENT!!!!) ...ok, msybe that wasn't so cool.

Darlene, I can tell by the mix of gnomes, buddah (buddi?) and cacti that you are a cool person. But what subject do you teach that necessitates Mr. H. Potter?

This is "high school" for the short-bus kids, right?

There is obviously some manner of strong correlation between cacti with eyes and garden gnomes.

I'd be more concerned about the gnomes than the cactus.

Is your cacti pregnant????? sure looks that way to me....

No, wait, my bad, it's the Gnomes that are pregnant or is it both??? I can hardly tell from the outer garments... Oh, my eyesight...

Ok, I was wrong. It is the 'buddhi' that are pregos... It's in there...

Hey, I am the "Darlene" with the above cacti... I'll have to see if I can get Chris to post an updated picture to this one. This was taken last month; this week all of the cacti started sprouting spare heads...

I won't say what school I teach at, but it is a pretty small, so I teach English to both ninth grade and junior students. Sadly enough it's mainly my honors kids who insist on poking it all the time... Perhaps they're masochists?...

Anyway, this was sent in as a response to the "B is for Butter" vid part about IFS4Y Day. I'd been wanting to send this in for a month but hadn't gotten around to it. Then I got beaten out by the awesome googly-eyed office supplies...
