Guten Tag Canada!

Germanygoose
Trish_John_DusseldorfGE
Hello to everyone in my beloved homeland. Happy Canada Day. Let's celebrate the birth of our fine nation with this post from some Americans, living in Germany, who like to hang out with our national bird. (Technically Canada doesn't have a national bird but let's pretend.) Trish writes:
"...Chris! Just wanted to say a quick hello and tell you about my day. My husband John and I went to Dusseldorf to see the NIN concert (Totally RAWKED!) on Monday night. This morning, we had a few hours to kill before the drive home, and while walking around Dusseldorf found an amazing city park. There were many different species of birds, including Canadian geese (eh?). There were baby ducks, some kind of baby black water bird, and even baby Canadian geese. They were so cute. The baby ducks came really close, I think their mom was sending them up as cute bait to get bread....which unfortunantly we did not have. Thought you might find these shots of happy baby animals uplifting. If you are ever in Germany, give Dusseldorf a look! Cheers! -Trish 27Teen, Kyllburg Germany by way of Portland OR."

The Lost Boy.

BabyBird_OHIO_Susan
Susan from OHIO writes: "...Hi Chris, This baby bird was looking in a bad way--especially as I had just let my supreme huntress (cat) out of the house.  After securing the beast, I scooped this little guy up and puthim up in one of the surrounding spruce trees. I checked back several times and he was still there...the final time I went out with a flashlight and he was gone...hopefully back with his siblings.  And ...NO...it was not able to fly or I would have left it alone."

Anna from ARIZONA writes: "...Hi Chris:...We now live in sunny Arizona, but in 2008 we were fixing our home up for sale in the state of Washington.  While I was cleaning, I saw something out of the corner of my eye in the wood stove.  It was a stupid bird who somehow managed to fly down two floors to the basement wood stove.  All I could think was my husband would not believe me so I took pictures of it and cursed it with a vengeance. All I knew was that I had to get it out (yes humanely), but if that bird got loose in the house with a tall vaulted ceiling it would take forever to get out, and there would be bird poop everywhere.  I really hated this little bird because it was trying to exit through the glass door, and pooping in frustration. It had a happy ending for everyone as I managed to throw a towel over everything and with another towel I finally grabbed the little vermin.  We had a long walk to the front door where we both stared at each other in hate, before I let it loose."

The Friend

Phillip_CANADA_Elspeth
Elspeth from CANADA writes: "...Hey Chris, This is Phillip. Phillip would sit in the corner of the entrance to my new apartment. Under the canopee--away from the elements. He would get a burst of heat whenever someone opened the door. He was a smart bird. Phillip was very friendly. I went very near to him many times, as he lived in his corner for about a week. I think there might have been something wrong with Phillip, that he stayed in the same place for so long, and let so many people very near him, because a few days after the last time I saw him, I found a pigeon colored stain on the sidewalk."
